My daughter Magali when she was a baby. |
My parents too were always partial to my brothers and quite ignored my sister and me. It really hurts that now when the brothers are married and all the assets are taken over by the brothers their wives want nothing to do with the Mother because she is old and not useful to babysit and now that the children are grown up they do not need the unpaid maid servant (the Grandmother).
When I was pregnant my husband always wanted a girl but I told him that we should be happy with either a girl or a boy but my only prayer was that I should have a normal delivery and a normal child. God granted me my prayers and I am thankful that I have a daughter.
My daughter is 18 years old and a blessing to me and my husband. Though she may pester me for many things that she wants she is a good and loving daughter who is kind to all and loves animals. I am really happy that I have a daughter and do not wish for anything else in this world.
Dearest Magali, Dad and I love you and want you to continue being a good person that you are.
May God bless you and keep you safe always.
Love,
Sheila

Lovely tribute to your daughter. I'm glad your husband wanted a daughter and loves her. It must be difficult to feel like a second class person when you know you are not.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a very strong and loving woman.
I can only echo everything that Photowannabe has written above. I have two daughters and two sons and we were and are delighted with all four equally. I know that isn't always the case. I'm glad your husband wanted and loves his daughter. Thanks for sharing this for the D Day. And your daughter was a beautiful baby and I'm certain she is just as beautiful now.

I have two daughters myself and love them both equally but differently. It's so sad that your culture still to this day prefers sons over daughters. Have you heard this little rhyme? "A son is a son until he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter for all of her life."
ReplyDeleteI am saddened to hear that your culture still love their sons over the daughters. I was the mother of 3 sons and 2 daughters, and my husband and I loved them each in their own special way. They are grown with children and grandchildren of their own, daughters and sons. If we daughters disappeared, their would be no sons or daughters to love. Do the men in your culture ever think about that?
ReplyDeleteA very interesting D Day post today, Sheila.
she is super cute.
ReplyDeleteI have one daughter, 6, whom I adore. Daughters are great!

She's very adorable. She looks like an angel! The pillow looks like wings.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story. I decided to follow to read more from you :-)
Blessings to your entire household.
Thank you for your lovely comment photowannabe. The mentality, thoughts and deeds of parents need to change here in India. Maybe because of their behavior my husband and I had decided that we would have only 1 child so that there would be no comparison to the other sibling or sexual preference. We are completly satisfied with our decision.
ReplyDeleteI really love all the lovely comments to my post. Thank you Sylviak.
ReplyDeleteOur daughter is a mature child for her age but still is childlike because she all the while wants me to play with her and make all sort of mischief.
I always think that I have a lot to be thankful for in my life.
It is really sad that parents who are literate have this behavior. Here in India a family is not complete if you do not have a son.I have had innumerable people asking me when I would have a son after my daughter was 2 years old. I got really tired of explaining to them that we were in no way interested in having a son. I am really proud that I have a supporting husband. Thank you for your comment Ann.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Roger.
ReplyDeleteShe was a really cute baby and now is grown up to be 18 years old and in college. Time has really gone by fast.
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings to you and your family Mrs M. Magali was a cute baby and she really kept me on my toes when she was a baby. She was like an owl as she slept the whole day and used to be wide awake and ready to make mischief at nights.
ReplyDeleteI have heard this rhyme Leslie but the parents who favor their sons are either deaf or they don't really care. And this is not only the illiterate people who have these views but lot of literate couples including my parents. But my father loved me a lot so I did not really miss my mothers love but I do not really know why they did not care for my sister.
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute Sheila - I am an only child and a much loved daughter. Sadly mum and dad are not here anymore but I know they watch over and guide me. Thanks for this.

a lovely tribute from mom to daughter.. very nice.. yes, in India, a lot of attention goes to the male child in the family.. sad though.. thankfully, I pay equal attention to my sister, and love her a lot too :D
ReplyDeleteI really felt happy for this one thing that you are really happy and proud abt your daughters !! My mum has the same feelings as you did!! I hope, we daughters always make you happy in whatever we do and yes!! We love you too!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting Denise. We have a daughter who is loved by my husband and me and she has a good life and knows that she has got so much more than most of her friends.
ReplyDeleteMy brothers were always trying to control me as I was the youngest child of four siblings and made me do all their work as if they were bestowing gifts on me. But they both got wives who make them do a lot of work at home and put them in their place. They have to shut their mouths and do it now as I could not do or say anything as my parents were never supportive.
ReplyDeleteI am proud of my daughter of our daughter Magali. Thank you for your comment Angie.
ReplyDeleteOooh, little Magali, so precious! Though my mum always wanted to have a son as part of her troupe, she is happy to have us three girls to herself and my dad - I mean, I hope she is, haha. I know what you mean though... but I wouldn't be able to relate to the struggles and I'm sure it must have been difficult when y'all were kids. :-(
